Supreme Court constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice T.S Thakur has by a 4-3 majority order declared that leaders of political parties in any election cannot seek votes on basis of Caste, community and religious lines. This pronouncement was on the basis of Section 123(3) of the Representation of People Act, 1951.
