Government Recognition to Indian Olympic Association Withdrawn over President’s Appointment

Indian Olympic Association is in trouble as the recognition granted to it has been withdrawn by the government over the issue of appointment of two Life President’s – Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Chautala.

All privileges and financial facilities provided by the government to IOA will immediately stop until the decision to appoint Suresh and Abhay as President’s is withdrawn. Government has taken this decision in its power as the National Olympic Committee(NOC).

Suresh Kalmadi was said to be involved in Commonwealth games scam and Abhay Chautala in the past has also been said to be involved in cases related to corruption in sports.

Government issued a show cause notice to IOA over the issue but didn’t got a proper response so this step was taken. The government has said that it believes in the principle of autonomy for IOA but any disregard of ethics and administration will not be tolerated.
